Konoplino
Konoplino is a village in the Tver region, on the right high bank of the Volga,
at the confluence of the Korzhach stream, 5 kilometers from the Tver-Rzhev
highway.
The first mention of Konoplino in the inventory books of the Staritsky
Assumption Monastery dates back to 1607. Small village was severely
destroyed during the Lithuanian invasion. In 1747, Konoplino belonged to the
landowner, collegiate assessor Ivan Ivanovich Sytin. The Sytins also owned
neighboring
Chukavino
.
At the end of the 30s of the 18th century, the daughter of Ivan Ivanovich’s
relative, Dmitry Stepanovich Sytin, Nadezhda, married ensign Petr
Romanovich Choglokov, and Konoplino went to Petr Romanovich as a dowry.
In the 60s of the 18th century, the estate again passed through the female line
as a dowry to the daughter of Petr Romanovich
Favsta Petrovna
to Prince
Sergey Borisovich Bolkhovskoy
.
A
t the end of the 18th century, a spacious two-story stone house was built in
Konoplino.
In 1791, the estate was once again given as a dowry to the daughter of Prince
S.B. Bolkhovskoy,
Nadezhda Sergeevna
,
who married Major General Ermolay
Ivanovich Velikopolsky. But they lived in Kazan, where Ermolay Ivanovich
served.
Four years after the death of Ivan Ermolaevich, Nadezhda Sergeevna married
Alexey Fedorovich Moiseev
for the second time. After her death in 1823,
Konoplino went to their daughter
Varvara Alekseevna
, the wife of
mathematician and professor at Kazan University N.I. Lobachevsky.
In 1835, the estate was sold to the writer I.I. Lazhechnikov. Lazhechnikov
owned Konoplino from 1835 to 1853, then the estate was sold to Afanasy
Fedorovich Shishmarev. He was fond of breeding thoroughbred horses and
traveled all over the world, showing them at races. After his death in 1875
(Afanasy Fedorovich was 85 years old), his wife Maria Nikolaevna became
a monk and created the Mariinsky Convent on the estate.
The manor house, park, and ancient well have been preserved. The territory
of the estate is privately owned, the manor house is beautifully restored, but
access there is closed.
